Group Lessons & Events

Queen City Mahjong offers a variety of classes to accommodate your skill level and your Mahjong interests. Whether just learning to play or sharpening your skills, we have opportunities to support you. All group lessons are in Charlotte, NC.

Perfect starting point for beginners. A 4 hour session to dive in to all things Mahjong in a casual fun environment. Hands-on guidance during games after classroom instruction. Includes National Mah Jongg League card & other course materials.
Play while QCM instructors are on-hand to assist players. A great way to maintain your skills! 2 Hours
Currently we offer this every Wednesday 6:30-8:30 at Gourmand Market at APEX across from Southpark Mall.
You have learned to play but want to re-visit the rules. Includes Open Play. 2 Hours
Best for players who know the rules, but are looking to advance their skills. Strategies may include: picking hands, Charleston tips, discards, dead hands, etc. 2 Hours
We present and analysis of the new National Mah Jongg League card after it is published each year in April. The class includes a breakdown of statistics, strategies and tips to improve your game with it. Also includes Open Play. 2 Hour
We are always adding one-time events so be on the lookout! Mahjong-a-thons, Mahjong tournaments, fun play days, in-store events, etc.

You may be wondering...

Your group will learn all of the rules in our 2.5 hour beginner lesson. We can schedule additional lessons if you want more guidance.
The minimum is 4 people for in-home lessons. Keep in mind that 4 people play the game at a table, but for lessons players may “team up” to accommodate everyone in the space.
Invite your friends and provide some light snacks and drinks if you would like, but it’s not necessary. We will discuss the tables that you have at the lesson site. We can bring tables if needed but any kitchen or dining table can usually work. Can be day or evening.
Yes! QCM provides an easy-to-read book included with most lessons and a reference card to use when playing the game even after you learn. We also provide the National Mah Jongg League cards.

No! We bring all the game equipment and tables if needed.
We try to keep the teacher to attendee ratio at 1 to 6. A typical lesson of 8 people will have 2 instructors.
The cost is per attendee, which includes learning material, the National Mah Jongg League card ($15 value) and hands-on instruction. Each lesson lasts about 2.5 hours.
Cost per attendee for 4-6 people: $125
Cost per attendee for 7 or more people: $100
